DJ Sergej says: “I love to dance.“

Sergej was born in Zagreb 1974 as a small Capricorn with expectations that life should bring him lot of love and dancing . Listening to Grandmaster Flash he was mostly hanging on the street with the boys from the hood, or spending time at his home doing mix tapes and trying to break dance. He started with clubbing, in the year 1988, from where on he visits every kind of club, every weekend.

As life is unpredictable, he moved to Moscow in 1994, starting his economy studies. Hanging out with the electronic music scene, he gets involved into serious clubbing. It was also in one of the clubs, where he met his wife, which should give birth to his daughter a few years later.
With his clubbing friends, he discovored a passion for fashion and opens with them the hottest fashion boutique in Moscow, selling clothes from the new wave of european fashion design.

1997. he moves to London, to finish his stuidies of economy, where he gets the title of the MBA. It was there, where he buyed his first turntable and his first 12”: Herberts legendary 100 lbs album. Inspired by the club happenings of the london scene, in the late nineties, he starts to collect more records, but still he is not DJ-ing.

In the year 2000. he moves to his birthtown Zagreb and recognises space for him to add value to existing clubbing scene. This was the moment, where he decided to get more active in music and starts DJ-ing. His first steps into the DJ boot was in Zagrebs alternative gay scene (giving the respect to scene which invented dance music culture). Following to that, he gets a residency, at Zagrebs legendary club Aquarius on thursday nights Stylish. At the same time he starts to do Sundays at the Iguana Bar with friends from the local underground. That was the time when the Frequency Crew was born.

After doing one off party, in 2003. the Frequency Crew gets the chance, to do the Weekends, at an cosy club - the Tockica (Dot). During the next two years, this place is about to become a cult club in Zagreb, which was also mentioned in global gossip talk as a crazy place to be. Booking DJs and artists from the european scene, Tockica became the only serious place for clubbing in Zagreb. At the same time Tockica had a strong focus on Croatian artist, and only in February 2004. - 28 Croatian artists had a chance to take the crowd to music journey.
During the Tockica period, something new was about to happen. Sergej gets the idea to do a promo DJ mix using only local producers music. Mix was released on Valentines Day 2004 (as a special Valentines day gift to his love4life Olga), mixed by DJ Sergej himself. That’s how Home Made Electronica was born. 1st mix was followed by Frequency colleague’s mixes Edo and Pytzek – and 4th are still in pipeline from tallest original Frequency gang member – Fogseller.  Tockica closed the doors after two years of crazy weekends and honest party-ing.

With the enthusiasm of a kid, Sergej decides to go ahead. He gets the chance to do the Thursdays at the re-opened night bar Fanatic, where he made oasis for more demanding music tastes. Together with friends DJs is having honour to play music to crowd, which is always ready for journeys into yet unexplored parts of music universe. In Fanatic he met a new friend, Marko Pelaic aka Home Boy. After, a bunch of all night dancing on Thurdays and a lot of after-hour philosophy, the two decide to work out things together. The first collabration was the Balkan acid duo “Becari”, producing the ultimate balkan smasher “Stikla”. But also other plans took their ways, one of them was to organise a “some kind of get together”, of the european underground scene, at the coast of croatia. The first one will take place in summer 2006.

From the idea to mix croatian artists, evolved the idea of a record label which will focus on Balkan artists. In 2005 the first Home Made official album release was out: the debut album of croatias young techno talent Davor O. Album was granted 5 points in de bug. The next release followed a few months later later: the 12” EP of croatias electro monster Zarkoff – Are you amused.

The present work of DJ Sergej lies in the work of his record label Home Made, working with artists such as Davor O, Zarkoff, Home Boy, Vitamin K and Becari. The future will show the results of the work of a man that cannot stop to dance.
